Thermoforming in 2015: A Year Full of Events

Those of us blessed enough to live in the Northeast or Midwest US are enjoying a wonderful blast of Arctic air, just to remind us that cozy fireplaces and holiday cheer are now a thing of the past… Out with 2014 and into 2015 we go.

Looking at the calendar of events for the thermoforming industry, it will be a very busy year for us at CMT. We’re happy with the timing because much of the R&D work we did last year on topics such as improving clarity with HYTAC C1R and developing a new, lightweight composite material for the heavy-gauge forming sector will now be shared with the industry.

At NPE in March, processors will have an opportunity to see HYTAC plugs in action at several booths. Then at Penn College in May and June, attendees at the hands-on thermoforming seminars will get to work with plugs, tools and machines in the lab.

We’ll be exhibiting in 2 of the BRIC countries in May (Brazil and China) and we’ll report back with some field notes on those two massive and very different markets. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were braving subway crowds in Shanghai at Chinaplas 2014. This year the event switches back to Guangzhou, home to almost 13 million people – that’s a lot of plastic packaging.

We’re not big on predictions and the first week of January shows that markets can get volatile in a hurry. So, unlike the manufacturing executive who was quoted as saying that he “didn’t see the price of oil coming down anytime soon” (this was in September 2014), we’ll refrain from prognosticating, though we will say that we are optimistic for 2015.

Here’s to all of our customers, partners and friends throughout the world – Happy New Year!
